The concept «railway» as a lingocultural phenomenon

Abstract

The concept «railway» representing part of a more complex concept «transport» is at the very core of conceptosphere of any language which reflects its importance in the life of people. The paper focuses on the specific character of the concept «railway» and the peculiarities of its explication inherent to American linguoculture. The word «conceptus» is a Latin medieval formation, which means «conceive» and is the hyperonym of the notion, ideas, frame, script, gestalt etc. «Concept» is an umbrella term embracing cognitive, psycholinguistic, cultural, linguistic aspects. In cognitive linguistics, the concept has a complicated structure divided into linguistic meaning and cultural sense.
